This fundamental bench mark was used during the Third geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 261.0656 feet [79.5728 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Ulverston to Wasdale and Wasdale to Cockermouth levelling lines.
