Second Geodetic Levelling, England & Wales (1912-21)
This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 129.4870 feet [39.4676 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Basingstoke to Wallingford levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on wall, 10 links from edge of Mapledurham Lock.

Visited on 3rd March 2015 by jochta. Grid reference: SU 66762 76779. Condition: Destroyed.
BM is visible on the 1967-68 1:2,500 OS Plan at 129.49' on the SW side of the lock just NW of the downstream gates at the gridref above. It would have been on the NW face of the wall. Old photos show a grass bank sloping down to the lock edge with narrow steps up to the gates with a retaining wall which would have housed the FB. These features were replaced during the lock rebuilding in 1985 with a wide path adjacent to the lock with wide steps up to the gates. The FB would have been destroyed at this time.

Lock was rebuilt in 1985 and substantially altered before then. Not shown on MasterMap.
