This projecting bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 163.7330 feet [49.9058 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Basingstoke to Wallingford levelling line. The surveyor's description was Bracket on centre of pier of railway bridge, Bath Road.

Visited on 18th November 2016 by jochta. Grid reference: SU 70037 72660. Condition: Unknown.
Shown trackside on OS MasterMap as described. It's adjacent to the W running line on the E face of the bridge pier.

Visited on 24th April 2011 by RogerTempleman. Condition: Inaccessible.
The description of 7.2m from the S parapet would put the PB under the middle of the A4, and I couldn't get a clear view of this trackside position from either of the footbridges.

Visited on 10th June 2006 by lackofluke. Condition: Probably destroyed.
My GPSr was indicating the south side of the bridge. I had a reasonably clear view of the south side from the footbridge to the south, but I could not see the bracket.
