Flush Bracket OSBM 1480: Langcliffe, Railway Bridge   

Flush Bracket on N.E. battlement of railway bridge, 13 chains N.E. from The Shed [2GL], also descibed as "On N.E. face of N.E. batmt. of Rly. Br. over road, N.W. side of road" - estimated location improved to SD 8194 6463 from SD 819 646; FB reported destroyed 15/12/1970. Not shown on 1979 map, but BM 528.8 ft. is shown on the 1909 map at NW end of the NE parapet NE face. RT suggests the FB may have been installed over this mark in 1914.

This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 528.3340 feet [161.0362 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Skipton to Ribblesdale levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on N.E. battlement of railway bridge, 13 chains N.E. from The Shed.

Third Geodetic Levelling, England & Wales (1950-68)
This flush bracket was used during the Third geodetic levelling, England & Wales. It was included on the Ribblesdale to Skipton levelling line.

Logged Visits
Visited on 9th June 2012 by wrose. Grid reference: SD 81940 64630. Condition: Probably destroyed.
Like other visitors I had no success in locating this one either.

Visited on 15th December 2007 by ted. Condition: Probably destroyed.
No sign of it. The battlements would seem an odd location - wonder if its trackside.

Visited on 18th July 2007 by RogerTempleman. Grid reference: SD 8196 6465. Condition: Unknown.
The bridge takes the B6479 under the Settle-Carlisle Railway between Settle and Langliffe. Couldn't find the FB but didn't check trackside where the FB would have been.
