Second Geodetic Levelling, England & Wales (1912-21)
This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 305.8190 feet [93.2136 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Melbourne to Nuneaton levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on N.W. wall of Bates Bridge.

The circular mark noted in previous logs is still visible. The staff support (hanging bracket) that clips on to the FB has an adjusting screw which has a 'foot' with the same diameter, and which rests at the same location as the circular mark and thus may have something to do with the presence of the mark.

Ashby Canal, Bridge 50, Bates Bridge. NE face of bridge, NW (towpath) side of canal. Another FB with a more of less circular mark below the number; in this case the FB is very slightly out of vertical, tilted forward, with the base slightly further back than the top.

Is disc below number ground out to ensure bracket, when attached, is level?
