This fundamental bench mark was used during the Third geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 520.7466 feet [158.7236 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Cockermouth to Wetheral and Wasdale to Cockermouth levelling lines. The surveyor's description was Cockermouth FBM - 3' NW of hedge, SE side of road & 22' NE of hedge junction.
