Second Geodetic Levelling, England & Wales (1912-21)
This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 240.3720 feet [73.2654 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Great Linford to Wallingford levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on N.W. pier of bridge over stream, Loughton.

The mark is shown on the 1925 Map as BM 240.4 ft. (73.3m). The bridge parapets appear relatively new: see photo at http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5163247
The 1972 shows BM 74.18m at the south end of the east parapet. This was apparently levelled in 1963 and shown as deleted on the OS Legacy Database:

Unsurprisingly there is no sign of this either.
