Flush Bracket G497: Thirlestane Burn Bridge 

E face of bridge, 5' S of centre of "Thirlestone Burn", W side of road - tentative identification of location, but seems to be the only bridge that could match the description. No BM shown on 1:10 000 map.

Second Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1936-52)
This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, Scotland, and was levelled with a height of 966.4360 feet [294.5697 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Hawick to Moffat levelling line. The surveyor's description was E face of bridge, 5' S of centre of "Thirlestone Burn", W side of road.

I walked this track between G498 and G496 back in January following the line of BMs shown on the map, and looking for G497. I don't remember there being much of a bridge here for it to be hiding on. It's probably a gonner. Worth a second visit, of course, with the new information.
