This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 139.6730 feet [42.5723 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Matlock to Melbourne levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on masonry, base of arch, near Swarkeston Junction.

Swarkeston Junction- base of bridge over dis canal. Flush Bracket on E face of br S side of dis canal, 25cm in from base of arch, buried. FB buried, a few inches below ground, canal is now dry
