Flush Bracket OSBM 2645: Oswestry, Beatrice Street   

Flush Bracket on N.E face of building, the New Swan Inn B.H., junction of lane, Beatrice Street, Oswestry [2GL] - FB reported destroyed at time of 3GL; presumably replaced by G3033 nearby - note location refined to SJ 2929 2993 (corner of Beatrice Road and Swan Lane, on the opposite site of Swan Lane to the later FB G3033) from original tentative estimate of SJ 292 298.

This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 411.0160 feet [125.2777 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Wrexham to Oswestry levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on N.E face of building, the New Swan Inn B.H., junction of lane, Beatrice Street, Oswestry.

Not sure about this grid reference. I also checked the Plough Inn but no sign of FB. I suspect 2645 was on a building diagonally opposite the Railway Inn (see G3033) over the road from Swan Lane which would fit the name. There is a BM marked here on the 1938 map on The site is now an Aldi & bus station

Visited on 5th January 2008 by jochta. Condition: Probably destroyed.
It would help if the description gave the side of the road. Close to the GR is the Plough Inn and I thought I detected the bottom inch or so of a FB below a wooden board covering some cables but after firtling with my fingers whilst pretending to tie my laces I'm not so sure. Anyway this is on the SE face of the pub. There is no FB that I could see on the NE face. It could have been where the garage on the SE side of the road is or where the bus station is which is labelled Swan Ct Cotts on MasterMap.
