This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 342.0130 feet [104.2456 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Boscastle to Grampound levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on solid rock, 17 links N. from angle of fence at junction of roads, Whitecross.
Third Geodetic Levelling, England & Wales (1950-68)
This flush bracket was used during the Third geodetic levelling, England & Wales. It was included on the Troon to Boscastle levelling line.

Had another go this year, particularly with the extra info from the OS database. Still no joy, but the area where the rock would be is clearer. The area is very overgrown, and there are new bungelows just to the N, so it may or may not have survived. However, I recommend a winter return, with long trousers and secateurs.

Note there is a cut bench mark on the roadside granite cross, which presumably gives the village its name?
