OSBM Bolt: by Perry Farm, Professor Whewell's Point   

"A block of granite weighing 1½ tons, in which is inserted, horizontally, a copper cylinder of 1½ inches diameter, fastened with a transverse key" (1837); Bolt in W. end of granite block, Professor Whewell's Point, N.N.W. of Perry Farm and about 1½ miles W of East Quantockshead [2GL] - tentative location; not actually an "OSBM" Bolt, nor a "1GL" Bolt; reported 18/04/1953 as destroyed.

This bench mark was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 171.9470 feet [52.4094 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the North Petherton to Flax Bourton (Axmouth to Perry Farm Branch) levelling line. The surveyor's description was Bolt in W. end of granite block, Professor Whewell's Point, N.N.W. of Perry Farm and about 1½ miles W of East Quantockshead.
