G983 photographed 30th July 2001 with a very uncertain future. G983 was at the bottom left of the front (west) elevation. The large property developers board reads as follows. "Development Opportunity. 6.5 Acres proposed for residential or student accommodation to include 850 sq m of commercial or class 3 use (subject to planning). All enquiries SILVER FERN (KING ST) LTD 0131 660 2742". By 2003, Steve Weatherill and myself had both separately seen the multi storey student residences under construction on this site during 2003. 2004: 7-storey over development completed. G983 lost forever.
