This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, Scotland, and was levelled with a height of 113.5520 feet [34.6106 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Whittingehame to Edinburgh levelling line. The surveyor's description was S face of SW angle of Smeaton Lodge, entrance to Dalkeith Park.

On south angle of gate lodge just inside grounds of Dalkeith House. FB in bush, painted black, faces SE.
