This flush bracket was used during the Second geodetic levelling, England & Wales, and was levelled with a height of 91.7000 feet [27.9502 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Sapperton to Sharpness levelling line. The surveyor's description was Flush Bracket on W. face of Ryeford Bridge over canal.

A couple of pipes which cross the canal with the bridge are supported on some brickwork that looks more recent than the rest of the bridge. The FB may well be behind one of these. The cut BM spotted by Ken Bailey is still there.
